The SR125 is where the Prestige series moved from portable to serious. Hi-Fi News reviewer Ken Kessler wrote that the SR60 was for portable hi-fi users, while the SR125 gave you sound best called entry-level high-end. Stereo Review's Julian Hirsch measured it as very flat through the midrange and said he couldn't imagine a better-sounding headphone anywhere near its price, though he doubted Grado's special copper wire made any difference. Compared with the SR60 it has bigger 75 mm pads, copper wiring throughout and a full-size 1/4-inch plug. It came out around 1994 and stayed until the SR125i of 2008.
Before you plug in
The cups twist on their rods, which winds up the Y-cable, and the cable breaks at the plug or the split. The foam pads wear and come loose.

Buying guide
The only SR125 for sale is a pair titled with new ear pads and a 1/4-inch adapter at $141 delivered from a 100% seller, and it's a fair buy if the cups check out. With one listing, the $140–150 band isn't a market read. Check the cups in the photos, since the original has straight-sided cups and the SR125i and later have larger, tapered ones. At 32 ohms it's easy to drive, but its 1/4-inch plug needs an adapter for a phone, and the cable is the part to ask about, because twisting cups wind it up and it breaks at the plug or the Y-split.
