Brand
Fritz Sennheiser and seven colleagues from Hanover's technical university founded the company on June 1, 1945, as Labor W, in the village of Wennebostel near Hanover, and its first product was a voltmeter. It took the name Sennheiser electronic in 1958. It was making small headphones by 1955, but the model that changed things was the HD 414 of 1968, which Sennheiser calls the world's first open-back headphone. From the HD 414 on, most of the Sennheisers here take a detachable cable with Sennheiser's two-pin plug at the cup, and on the 1980s and 1990s models those contacts are the usual cause of crackle. Sennheiser still sells genuine pads for the HD 414 and HD 424. Its consumer headphone business passed to Sonova in 2022.
