Brand
Eugen Beyer founded the company in Berlin in 1924 to make loudspeakers for cinemas, and in 1937 it launched the DT 48, which Beyerdynamic calls the first dynamic headphone. The Berlin factory was destroyed in the war, and the company moved to Heilbronn in 1948, where its headquarters and most of its production still are. Fred R. Beyer took over after Eugen Beyer's death in 1959 and ran it for about 40 years. What makes a used Beyerdynamic a good buy is parts. The company still sells pads, cables and even drivers for long-running models like the DT 100, DT 880 and DT 990, including ones it lists for older units. In 2025 a sale of the company to the Chinese firm Cosonic was announced.
