Brand
Rudolf Görike and Ernst Pless founded AKG in Vienna in 1947. The name stands for Akustische und Kino-Geräte, acoustic and cinema equipment, and its early products included film projectors and loudspeakers as well as microphones. AKG made its first headphone, the K120 DYN, in 1949. Philips and later an Austrian holding company owned it before Harman bought it in the 1990s, and Samsung bought Harman in 2017. The Vienna headquarters and factory closed that year, and former AKG staff went on to found Austrian Audio. For a used buyer, AKG's classic studio headphones were made in Austria for decades, and the K1000 earspeaker won Austria's state design prize. Check the model and version on the label, since AKG reused names across generations.
